Borno Public Schools to Resume Next Month

Borno public schools would re-open in November after a seven months lockdown, the State Governement said yesterday.
It was revealed by Chairman, Committee on the Resuscitation of Primary School Education, Dr. Mohammed Dongel at a meeting in Maiduguri, whosaid that the schools would reopen in the first...

“We hope to reopen all public schools by the first or second week of November God willing,’’ Dr. Mohammed Dongel said.


He added that the committee hoped to have put in place all necessary infrastructure and instruction materials for encouraging teaching and learning.

“We plan to introduce various measures to encourage parents to send their children and wards to school.’’


He also said that the measures would also help to attract pupils who are registered in school to remain.

According to Dongel the committee would pay periodic visits to schools to guarantee implementation of government plans on increased school enrolment.


The Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, had last week inaugurated a 19-man committee on the Resuscitation of Primary School Education in the state.



Public secondary schools in North East Borno State were closed down on March 14, following deadly attacks blamed on Boko Haram Islamists.


It should be recalled that the Nigerian government on October 17, 2014, Friday, reached a deal with Islamist Boko Haram sect on the ceasefire and the release of more than 200 kidnaped Chibok schoolgirls.


Many Nigerians continue to stay concerned about the supposed ceasefire agreement.

Just after the Federal Government announced a ceasefire agreement with the Boko Haram sect, a series of deadly attacks was launched on a number of Nigerian villages.


But the Government has assured that the sect would keep their promise to release the over 234 kidnapped girls.
